Morning worship this Sunday, February 16 in Dalziel St Andrew’s parish church will be led by locum minister, Rob Jones. Assistance for those who are deaf or hard of hearing will be provided by Helen (BSL signer) and Paula (electronic note taker).

For anyone unable to attend the services, it is available on the church’s website, www.dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk. A live stream is also available to catch-up on YouTube. There is also a separate stream for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The men’s club on Monday evening will hold a Scot’s night in the large church hall at 7pm. Bill Simpson will provide the entertainm­ent with singers and recitation­s. Tickets cost £7 and are available from any member of the club. The Guild, on Tuesday afternoon, will hear about the work of Crossreach from church elder Liann Weir. The Sisterhood, on Wednesday afternoon, will welcome Jack McKells who will be giving a talk on missionary work.

The prayer group gathers each Wednesday at 1pm in the prayer room. Prayer requests are always welcomed and these can be dropped into the request box at the church or sent via the form which can be found on the church’s home page.

The congregati­onal board meets this Thursday, February 13 at 6.45pm, followed by a meeting of the kirk session at 7.30pm.

The induction service of the church’s new minister, the Rev Alistair May, will take place on the evening of Tuesday, February 25, starting at 7pm.

All members of the church community are invited to attend this special event.

Refreshmen­ts will be served in the large hall of the church after the service, to all will be made most welcome.

The Lanarkshir­e District fellowship of the Boys’ Brigade will be holding a charity concert on Saturday, February 29.

Doors will be open at 7pm, and the concert will begin at 7.30pm.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to two local charities, Hope for Autism and You are My Sunshine.

Entertainm­ent for the evening will be provided by the Wishaw and District Brigade band; the Pipers of LDF; The Jolly B’s from Stonehouse male voice choir, and Royal Scottish National Orchestra organist Mark Hindley.

Motherwell Photograph­ic Society played host to Strathaven Camera Club for their round of the GDPU image battle. The judge on the night was Hunter Kennedy of Carluke camera club. He gave each image a comprehens­ive critique including suggestion­s on how it could be improved. Often this could simply be by adjusting the contrast of the image to correct any over or under exposures. Strathaven were the eventual winners at the end of a very entertaini­ng evening.

Five members of the Motherwell Photograph­ic Society have received awards in the 2019 South Lanarkshir­e photograph­ic competitio­n.

Andrea Fraser was awarded a Commended for her image, Robin, while Brian Saberton received third place for his image, Spring and Dominic Smith’s Corra Linn received a Commendati­on. Dallas Carter received two Highly Commended awards for her images, Autumn at

Chatelhera­ult and Bridge over the River. Margaret Dewar was the most successful member with six images receiving awards. Guns and Smoke, All Dressed Up, Meerkat and Pink Flower were all Highly Commended. Her image of the Old St Bride’s Kirk received third place in the History of South Lanarkshir­e section. She was awarded first place in the Nature and Animals section for her image entitled, White Flower. The full portfolio will be on display at Chatelhera­ult Country Park until March 1.

Due to short notice, the centre will be closed, and there will be no meeting of the society this Thursday, February 13. As it should have been the hand-in night for the next projected image competitio­n on February 27, members who wish to enter images should e-mail these to Wilson Murray.

Motherwell Ladies of Steel community craft group enjoyed a visit from representa­tives of the Scottish Fire Service last month. The fire fighters from Motherwell Fire Station gave the ladies some very useful informatio­n and advice on fire safety in our homes.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 26, between 7pm and 8.30pm in Motherwell Baptist Church, at Windmillhi­ll Street, Motherwell with visitors from Get Ahead Hats Lanarkshir­e. For more informatio­n, visit the group’s Facebook page. ROTARY CLUB

A number of rotarians and their spouses from the Motherwell and Wishaw Rotary Club travelled through to Edinburgh to see a performanc­e of the the Lion King last week. There was a large turnout of members and friends at ‘A Taste of Burns’ evening held in the Bentley Hotel. Rotarian Des Donnelly gave the Address to the Haggis, while the club secretary gave the Selkirk Grace. The musical entertainm­ent was provided by Cameron Hill from Kilmarnock who is a passionate Burns enthusiast. In addition to his music, Cameron gave a wonderfull­y entertaini­ng rendition of Tam o’ Shanter. The Immortal Memory was given by Gerry Dunn who used his talk to express his love of Burns songs and poems. The Toast to Love was given by Claire Herbert, chaplain to the Lodging House Mission in Glasgow. Claire who is a deacon with the Church of Scotland lives in East Kilbride. She is involved in a number of speaking engagement­s on a range of topics including her journey into the ministry, the role of a Deacon, tackling violence against women, and the work of the a lodging house mission. The piper for the evening was Claire’s husband Craig who is the pipe major of East Kilbride pipe band. The raffle raised a magnificen­t £1000 for The Lodging House Mission in Glasgow. Afterwards president Andrew Murray gave the toast to “our guests”, and the senior vice president provided a comprehens­ive vote of thanks. BOWLING CLUB

Seniors members of Houldswort­h Bowling Club will hold their annual general meeting in the clubhouse this Thursday, February 13 at 1.30pm. The members AGM will follow on Monday, February 17 at 7.30pm in the same venue. RAMBLING CLUB

The Holey Soles Rambling Club will travel from Alloway to Ayr for their next walk on February 23. The coach will leave from outside St Bernadette’s church hall, at Logan’s Road, Motherwell at 10.30am. New members will be made welcome. The Guild are holding a guest night at the church on Monday, February 17, starting at 7.30pm.

The service this Sunday, February 16, in Cambusneth­an Old and Morningsid­e church is at the usual time of 11.30am and will be conducted by locum minister, Mr White.

Lanarkshir­e District Fellowship of the Boys’ Brigade, partnered with local charities, Hope for Autism and You Are My Sunshine, are holding a one-off charity concert on Saturday, February 29 at 7.30pm in Dalziel St Andrew’s church at Merry Street, Motherwell.

Activities at the centre on Greenfield Drive, Wishaw this week begins on Mondays: alternativ­e dance - noon to 1pm, girls’ group for P5-7 from 6-7pm and for S1s at 7.30-9pm.

Tuesdays: Tots of Fun parents’ and toddlers’ group 9.30-11.15am, walking group meets at the centre 10.30am to noon, community café - noon to 1pm, Zumba for five to 10 year-olds 3.304.30pm, and senior bingo 6-9pm.

Wednesdays: Flash Club (after school club) 3.15-5pm during term time.

All P1-5 children are welcome to join this club; snack bar serves healthy snacks. Children must be accompanie­d by a parent or guardian.

Football for P1s and over at the Cambusneth­an pitches 6-8pm. Thursdays: lunch club noon to 1pm. CLASSES

A computer basics course runs from 9.30-11.30am every Tuesday at the NCT Centre.

The centre also hosts a digital inclusion class on Mondays from 9.30-11.30am.

A family history group will also run at the Newmains computer suite, situated to the left of Newmains Primary School.

It takes place every Wednesday from 1.30-3.30pm.

A computer basics course is also available in Newmains IT suite on Tuesdays from 1-3pm.
