Homes set for Harthill
An eco-friendly housing development could be created on a greenfield site in Harthill.
Aspire Construction Ltd has submitted proposals to North Lanarkshire Council to build 20 houses on land next to Edinburgh Road, Eastfield.
The Oldham-based firm have drawn up ambitious plans to build eight semi-detached, three detached and nine terraced properties which will be energy efficient.
Their plans recently lodged with the council state that a very important aspect of the development is to “minimise the carbon footprint and reduce ongoing future energy consumption”, aswell as create affordable housing in the area.
Their planning papers read: “The dwellings themselves will have enhanced levels of insulation to retain heat and reduce space heating requirements.
“The north-south positioning of the houses will allow for optimal use of solar energy.”
The developers are also looking at introducing photovoltaic panel, which convert sunlight into electricity, and solar panels, which convert sunlight into heat.
Their report reads: “Due to low overshadowing of the roofed area, the site would benefit from the use of photovoltaics for electricity.
“It is also possible to integrate solar panels to provide efficient passive water heating.”
However, there are some complications with the proposed site. The council’s planning committee would have to approve the demolition of a bungalow at 23 Edinburgh Road in order to create access to the site at its northern end.
The application will be considered at an upcoming council planning committee, with the date still to be set.
