Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir will hold talks with his squad in training this week to find out what went wrong as Port Glasgow beat them 3-0 at the John Cumming Stadium on Saturday.
Weir admits the heavy home defeat was a fair reflection of the game, and was disappointed that his players didn’t make more of their opportunity to climb West Region League One.
Safety was always paramount in Weir’s mind, though, and he says the rest of the season is now about building for next term.
“The disappointing thing is that we were playing with the wind in the first half and we didn’t have a single shot on goal. To be honest I don’t have an answer for that and won’t until I sit down with the boys and have a chit-chat, but hopefully we’ll get a good response for the game aty Shettleston on Saturday.
“To be honest, 3-0 was a fair result and I was a bit disappointed.
“In my view the game shouldn’t have gone ahead, because of the weather, but it was the same for both teams, and it seemed to be the case that they wanted it more, so I was disappointed.
“It’s obviously disappointing to fall to a heavy defeat at home, and my captain Mark Cassidy has picked up a wee knock, but hopefully he is fine for Saturday coming.
“We’re at Shettleston and I don’t see why we can’t take points, the lads are more than capable, it just seems to depend on their mood on a Saturday at the moment.
“At the start of the season I thought Shettleston were a team that was capable of taking the championship, but we’re more than capable of going there and taking at least a point, or all three.
“I’m starting to enjoy management, particularly because now I have a squad to choose from and I can tinker with it and make changes, and the players I’ve got are more than capable of carrying off results.
“When I started though I was down to the bare bones, it was a real headache, and I had to play myself in the first couple of games, so that wasn’t ideal. We’re doing OK now and another couple of wins would obviously help.”
