Grimshaw’s aderbyday luckycharm

- MARK PIRIE

Motherwell defender Liam Grimshaw is hoping to add another gold star showing to his top New Douglas Park record on derby day.

Since signing his permanent deal with the Steelmen, the 25-year-old has boasted an undefeated record against Hamilton Accies in South Lanarkshire.

The right-back is hoping to earn local bragging rights and take three points back to Fir Park once again.

He said:“I’ve played in quite a few derby games now and they are always tough games.

“We always take a big crowd there and it’s like a home game for us.

“I’ve had a few good wins against them and a few losses but they are always good games. If we play like we can against them we always have a good chance of winning.

“If I can keep my own record recently against Hamilton going, and get another win, we’d be delighted.”

Motherwell have slipped behind Aberdeen and out of the Scottish Premiership Europa League spot on goal difference, although they have a game in hand.

Having been missing from league duty last weekend with the St Mirren clash axed due to a waterlogged pitch, Grimshaw knows there is a lot of work to be done to win the race with the Dons.

However, the former Manchester United kid is loving life in Lanarkshire having been moved into defence by boss Stephen Robinson this term.

“It’s been a fantastic season for us so far but there is a long way for us to get where we want to go which would be a European spot,”said Grimshaw.

“I’ve really enjoyed being a regular starter and it helps when you are in a winning team.

“Stephen Robinson is a fantastic coach and I think that has shown over the past couple of years. We’ve had a lot of success in getting to two cup finals and got into decent league positions.

“Hopefully this season we can kick on again; getting into Europe would be class.

“There is a lot of good stuff going on both on and off the pitch with clearing our debt recently. Everyone associated with the club can be proud of that.”
