WHERE THE NO BLAME!

- GREGOR FARQUHARSON

The current lockdown has changed life dramatically for everyone in the UK.

And it seems that the people of Wishaw are listening to the government advice.

When we went to the town’s main street the day after the lockdown was announced to see where was open and who was out and about.

Most of the shops in the town are now closed for the time being, apart from those that are deemed essential (such as those selling food and medicine).

Many shops that were open had some sort of measure in place in order to practice social distancing.

Lloyds Pharmacy was maintaining a maximum of two customers in the store at any given time.

And people in the queue were making sure they were standing well away from each other, to minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Other stores that were open were Poundland and Iceland, who both were making sure customers were maintaining social distancing.

The streets were also strangely empty, with the people who were out only out for essential items or exercise.

We posted a video on our Facebook to see what people made of the strange scenes.

Jamie A Morrison commented: “There was a small queue of people outside a supermarket and a chemist on the Main Street today and I had to squeeze past them to get by. Other than that, it was extremely quiet.

“I saw the police walking up the Main Street towards the cross and it’s good to know they’re keeping an eye on the situation.”

And John Greenhorn said: “Well done to the people of Lanarkshire this is fantastic.”
