Six local good causes are sharing a lottery funding jackpot of more than £30,000 following the latest round of grants from Awards for All.

Allanton and Hartwood Community Council is to set up a community shed with its £8925 from the National Lottery community fund, using the funds to buy tools and equipment for their project, which will“help support members to share skills and knowledge whilst increasing community spirit”.

Shotts-based support group Little Guys and Dolls will receive £7450 for activity equipment for its fortnightly support group for under-13s who have Down’s Syndrome – including play mats, a climbing frame, ball pit with slide and a sensory room.

The Line Dance Friendship group in Wishaw successfully applied for £600 towards the cost of transport to tuition events; and Harthill toddler and baby group is receiving £720 to help towards running its twiceweekly sessions.

Awards from Sport Scotland include grants to two Wishaw boxing clubs – Team Shire are receiving £3976 to provide new equipment for lessons and workshops, while Rivals will use their £3500 award to run sessions for young people with autism and additional support needs.

Chikara karate club is also receiving lottery support, in the form of a bumper £5365 cheque for new equipment for its sessions in Wishaw, Motherwell and Bellshill to help “reduce the financial barrier associated with the sport”.

A total of 18 organisations across North Lanarkshire were among 222 arts, sports and community groups across Scotland to share a bumper funding pot of nearly £1.6 million distributed by Awards for All Scotland. It makes grants of between £300 and £10,000 to local groups, with more information on applying being available at www. tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/
