Newmains makeWoSL memberbid

Newmains have confirmed they have put forward an application to join the new West of Scotland League.

Members from the Lowland, East of Scotland and South of Scotland Leagues met with West Region Juniors leaders via conference call on Tuesday night.

A number of agreements were made over the formation of the additional structure to the sixth tier, which is expected to be arranged in a conference style.

Newmains United back the proposals and have submitted their application to join before the April 7 deadline.

Should the Scottish Football Association grant approval, the club will retain its membership of the Scottish Junior Football Association and therefore will continue participating in the Scottish Junior Cup.

Co-manager Paul Davies said:“In light of the statement by the pyramid working group, Newmains United have taken the decision that it would be best for us to join the newly formed West of Scotland League.

“Whilst the decision certainly wasn’t taken lightly we believe it will be best for the club, players and supporters.

“Becoming a senior club and playing in the sixth tier of Scottish football is an exciting proposition for players, management and supporters.

“But we still have a severe situation in the country to overcome before we can start preparing for football.

“I hope football clubs as a whole can help shine a light when this awful situation is over and we can get the community along to start enjoying both life and football once again.”
