week recognising the heroic efforts of NHS staff and other frontline workers.

Reverend Liddle, who is the minister at Bathgate Community Church, noticed on social media that across the country people have also been playing musical instruments to pay tribute, and thought he would do similar.

He said: “We had been going out every Thursday to do the applause but I noticed people singing and playing instruments on Facebook and decided that I should also do something out in the street for our NHS staff too.

“It has gone really well and my neighbours seem to be enjoying it. I am just trying to bring a wee bit of light to their darkness during these trying times.”

The reverend has over 50 years singing experience and previously released a five-song CD to raise money for cancer research.

That was following the death of his beloved wife who passed away in September 2013 with him by her side.

He admits she is always on his mind when he is singing but he also just wants to try and bring some cheer to his neighbours with his street performances.

“I just give the CDs away to anyone who asks for a copy nowadays but we originally did it to raise money for cancer research,” he said.

“I always think of my wife when I am performing, she loved to hear me singing.

“It is just great to do something and help the street out. I am still very young at heart, love being happy and cheering people up.

“I will be there this week, next week and the week after that and will keep singing for as I am needed.”
