Funeral support after gran’s sudden death
A loving grandmother has been described as having “a heart of gold” after her sudden death.
Ruth Lees passed away at the tragically young age of 51 after suffering a massive heart attack last Monday.
She had been looking after three of her grandchildren the previous Friday night.
Devastated daughter Gemma Yuill said: “She was looking after my kids Callum, Morgan and Lexi on the Friday.
“They had a chippy and some ice cream. She was spoiling them as always.
“She had fainted on the Saturday morning and Callum, who is only four, went and got a neighbour.
“She told him he was her little superhero.
“She was taken to Hairmyres and she was stable. We thought she would be taken back to Wishaw but on the Monday morning she buzzed the nurses and she went into cardiac arrest.”
Mum-of-two Ruth, who lived in
Motherwell, loved being part of her grandkids’ life and Gemma described her mum as having a “heart of gold”.
“She really would help anyone,” said Gemma.
“She was a lot of fun and would speak to anyone.
“Mum was just so kind and loved her four grandkids.
“We lived right across the road from each other so we were very close.
“She just got on with life and tried her best for everyone.”
Gemma and her brother Andrew have been pressing on with funeral arrangements.
However, due to Ruth not having life insurance both siblings will have to share the financial burden.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up in Ruth’s memory in order to help the family with funeral expenses.
Gemma added: “Unfortunately mum stopped her life insurance and it has really gave us a wake-up call for me to get things like that sorted because me and my brother have been trying to organise everything and it has been really difficult.
“My husband Andy and his mum Pauline have been so good. Mum was so excited about Callum starting primary one so Pauline has got a picture of him in his uniform for mum which will go into her casket with her.”
