Vital support to local groups

A number of other groups providing vital services in North Lanarkshir­e were among the 300-plus organisati­ons to receive awards from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Soundsatio­nal Community Music in Motherwell received an award of £10,000.

FAMS (Families and Friends Affected by Murder and Suicide) in Motherwell have received £7720 which will be used to enhance and develop their new FAMS Chat helpline service.

The Ponies Help Children charity in Kirk o’Shotts was awarded £6802. They supports young people living with disabiliti­es and additional and complex support needs.

The group helps those young people improve their mental health and build their resilience through their programme which works with rescue ponies.

Cleland Gala Day received £5500 which will help the village group strengthen and empower the community, and help integrate different religious and ethnic communitie­s in the local and surroundin­g areas.

Orchard Primary’s LCSC Support Group in Overtown received £5400 which enabled them to purchase equipment to run activities for children with additional support needs during the coronaviru­s lockdown.

And Radio Law was awarded £1563 which will go towards the running costs of the hospital radio station which is run by volunteers at University Hospital Wishaw.
