Diamond celebratio­n

A great garden party with family was the perfect present for a Cambusneth­an couple celebratin­g their diamond wedding.

Roderick and Betty McCarrison tied the knot on July 15, 1960, and celebrated 60 years of marriage surrounded by their children and grandchild­ren.

The couple’s daughter, Liz Crolla, 57, said:“It was just nice to have something for them after everything that has happened.

“We are a close family so we had all the grandchild­ren which was great.”

Roderick, from Newmains, and Betty, originally from Craigneuk, met at the dancing in Carluke and were married around 18 months later in Craigneuk Parish Church.

Soon after daughter Liz was born followed by their son David.

Roderick began his working life as a miner before working as a labourer for a company in Newmains for more than two decades.

Meanwhile, Betty worked in Templetons Store for a number of years.

The couple have lived at their home in Cambusneth­an for more than 40 years and enjoy spending time with their grandchild­ren Dario, Kyle and David.

Liz added:“My mum loved spending time in the garden. “That is definitely her favourite place to go to. “My dad enjoys his time watching the television and loves his wee jaunt down to the Cambusneth­an Club.

“My dad was on the committee for 30 odd years and he is missing going down there big time.”
