Home plan on track insists NLC
by better active travel networks, meaning better access and massive investment in our country parks and open spaces.
“That means easier access, more renewable energy and reduced carbon emissions.”
The council’s town centres masterplan includes developing major community hubs incorporating schools, and an array of wider community uses.
Wishaw’s facility is anticipated to be based around St Aidan’s High and primaries which have not been replaced or remodelled in the past 25 years; while a large proportion of schools in Motherwell including all its secondaries are also in that category and could form part of the town’s new hub.
In Shotts, the relatively newer Calderhead High will be assessed to see what facilities could be added to create the community campus model.
Smaller locality hubs are also planned across North Lanarkshire, providing more localised facilities and replacing outdated buildings – with the already-planned Newmains and St Brigid’s primaries joint campus to be considered for the development of additional community facilities.
The council’s plan will also see considerable investment in the area’s three main country parks, welcoming more visitors and encouraging them to stay longer.
Councillor Logue added: “These are exciting times for North Lanarkshire but we can’t do all this alone.
“We need to work in collaboration with our residents who will play a crucial role in making the real decisions that affect them and their communities.
“Over the next few weeks and months we’ll provide people with more information on all of these developments.
“I’d encourage everyone to become involved in the process in order that they can fully appreciate the benefits our plans will bring to so many families across our area.”
