‘Well star benefits from NI shot

- BEN MCNICOL

Rohan Ferguson wasn’t part of the memorable campaign at Motherwell last term – but made his own history with Linfield FC in Northern Ireland

The 22-year-old joined the Blues on a season-long loan last July and excelled under former Rangers striker David Healy.

After starting his career at Windsor Park in the Europa League, he ended the season as a champion in the season curtailed by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The goalkeeper saif:“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Linfield last season.

The European journey was brilliant and it was a pleasure to play in those games; they are what you want to be playing in as a player.

“We done well, beating the likes of HB Torshavn and FK Sutjeska Niksic, and we were really unlucky against FK Qarabag.

“There are not many teams who can say they missed out on the group stages by goal difference. It was brilliant to be announced as champions and I thought we thoroughly deserved it.”

Following his return from Motherwell, Ferguson was given the news that he wasn’t being offered a new contract at the Steelmen.

Speaking about his departure, the 22-year-old added:“Motherwell are a great club and I loved my three years there.

“To be honest, being released has probably been a blessing in disguise as I wouldn’t have played with Trevor Carson being number one.

“I feel as if I can play at Premiership level and do well. I’ve played more than 120 games at a good level, so hopefully I’ll get a chance at another club to prove myself.”
