Celebration of four decades put on hold

-

Motherwell Volleyball Club’s 40th anniversary celebrations are on hold, while they go through the longest period of inactivity in their history.

But the club hope to thrive once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

While outdoor activities are gradually being allowed to return, it will be some time before indoor team sports are allowed to resume, meaning the club has put anniversary celebrations into cold storage.

However, having watched almost every other volleyball club in Lanarkshire fold in its lifetime, the Motherwell club is confident that it will survive the shutdown.

The club hope to keep going, and player Phil McGhee said:“Now as it concludes its 40th year, which makes it a dinosaur in volleyball terms, the club boasts members ranging from 16 to 60-plus, including two of the pupils and one of the teachers from the original line-up.

“Hopefully, when restrictions are lifted Motherwell Volleyball Club can look ahead to its next decade and continue to be ambassadors for the sport in the local area.”
