Duo arrested after incident

Two men were arrested following a violent incident near a Motherwell supermarke­t.

At around 2pm on Tuesday, July 14, officers were alerted to a disturbanc­e involving a group of men armed with weapons near to the Asda superstore in Watson Street.

During this incident one man was subjected to a violent assault with weapons.

Officers attended the scene and quickly traced two men to a house nearby where they were arrested.

Police carried out enquiries and traced a further man involved at another address nearby. He had suffered serious injuries during this incident and was conveyed to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment. His injuries are not life threatenin­g. During this investigat­ion a number of weapons were recovered.

Two men, aged 52 and 29, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court in connection with a serious assault, disorder and possession of weapons.

A 48-year-old will also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to assault, disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Sergeant Scott Wilson, of Lanarkshir­e CID, said: “Officers were alerted to this incident by CCTV operators and the local business community.

“Thanks to a swift response and thorough investigat­ion, the males responsibl­e were traced and arrested, while the injured male received the required medical attention.

“The local business community are thanked for their assistance.”
