Duo arrested after incident

Two men were arrested following a violent incident near a Motherwell supermarket.

At around 2pm on Tuesday, July 14, officers were alerted to a disturbance involving a group of men armed with weapons near to the Asda superstore in Watson Street.

During this incident one man was subjected to a violent assault with weapons.

Officers attended the scene and quickly traced two men to a house nearby where they were arrested.

Police carried out enquiries and traced a further man involved at another address nearby. He had suffered serious injuries during this incident and was conveyed to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment. His injuries are not life threatening. During this investigation a number of weapons were recovered.

Two men, aged 52 and 29, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court in connection with a serious assault, disorder and possession of weapons.

A 48-year-old will also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to assault, disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Sergeant Scott Wilson, of Lanarkshire CID, said: “Officers were alerted to this incident by CCTV operators and the local business community.

“Thanks to a swift response and thorough investigation, the males responsible were traced and arrested, while the injured male received the required medical attention.

“The local business community are thanked for their assistance.”
