DON’T PAUSE OUR GAME Plea after Dons and Celtic in Covid breaches
Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson has warned of dire consequences should Scottish football be brought to a halt.
With eight Aberdeen players being forced to self-isolate after two positive Covid-19 tests at the club and Celtic player Boli Bolingoli flying to Spain last week, the Scottish Government has warned they could be forced to pause the season.
But Robinson says everybody at Fir Park is doing what they can to stay safe.
With a clash at home to Livingston scheduled for
Wednesday night and a trip to the capital to face Hibs on Saturday, it’s a big week for the Steelmen.
He said: “People will lose jobs if Scottish football is paused, the industry will go to pieces, make no mistake about that.
“But I don’t think in any shape or form that Scottish football should be closed down.
“We are in the safest environment we can possibly be in. We’re tested twice a week, we eat separately, we don’t do anything outside of the football club, so we’re trying to follow everything that we can to make sure Scottish football keeps going, so I don’t see a reason to pause.
“Individuals make mistakes, they’re individuals but as individuals they need to stop making them.”
On the week ahead, Robinson said: “It’s not the start we wanted, I’ve said numerous times that there’s no rationale in football. If you lose we’re rubbish and I’m the worst manager in the world, if you win we’re great and I should be managing Barcelona.
“There’s no in-between but there has to be, because there is a lot of good stuff on the pitch for us not to start winning games.
“There are things we have to be better at, we have to be more clinical, we have to put more balls into the box.
“It’s very hard to break teams down, and I think teams are playing against us with a real respect, they’re sitting in and trying to hit us on the counterattack, which never used to happen, and you see how difficult it is to break teams down.
“We need to put more balls into the box, create more opportunities, and at the other end we have to be clinical with our defending. Teams are getting one chance against us, maximum of two, and they’re punishing us for that, so we have to learn those lessons.”
