M74 closures to allow repair work
A northbound stretch of the M74 is currently closed overnight as essential resurfacing of the carriageway takes place.
The work between junction 8 and 7 near Larkhall began on Monday and nightly closures will continue until early morning on Sunday, September 20.
Amey is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Darren Mitchell, Amey’s senior structural maintenance engineer, said:“This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working.
“It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out under a series of overnight closures, in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their patience while we deliver this important improvement project.”
The resurfacing of the 2.5km section will be delivered under a series of overnight closures, implemented from 8pm each evening until 6am the following morning.
Local diversions will be in place overnight, while these works are completed. Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles. No additional arrangements have been put in place for windfarm traffic or abnormal loads.
Drivers are advised to allow some additional time to their overnight journeys in order to follow the diversion.
