‘WELL MUST SINK SAINTS O’Hara says Steelmen have point to prove

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

Motherwell star Mark O’Hara says they have a massive point to prove when St Johnstone come calling on Saturday.

The midfield ace says a win against Callum Davidson’s side can kick-start Motherwell’s season and get them off the foot of the Premiership.

O’Hara hopes that provides a major boost as Motherwell move into a Europa League second qualifier against Coleraine next Thursday, in the hope of giving fans a glamorous away day.

The former Kilmarnock and Peterborough star admits this season hasn’t been going to plan, but says manager Stephen Robinson has told them to keep believing in what they’re doing.

“This is a massive chance for us to get back on track,” he said.

“We definitely need that three points and it’s a great opportunity to get it this weekend.

“We feel that we definitely have a point to prove.

“It has been frustrating that the wins haven’t been coming, because we feel that we’ve probably been doing enough in games, but things haven’t been going our way.

“St Johnstone is always a very tough game, I don’t think I’ve ever had a game against them when it hasn’t been. They’re always very well organised and make it hard for you.

“We will need to be at our best to get the three points, but if we do that, it should hopefully be enough.

“The gaffer has said to us that it’s a matter of trusting what we’re doing and it will turn for us.

“We have a good squad, we all believe in each other, we have a lot of firepower up front and I think it’s only a matter of time before we start banging in goals.

“Three points would be massive, we need something to kick-start our season.

“We find ourselves in an unfortunate position, but the league is still quite tight in the sense that nobody is really running away with it.”

Motherwell are taking it a game at a time so haven’t looked at Oran Kearney’s Coleraine just yet, but O’Hara wants to give something back to the fans.

He said: “It’s an opportunity to progress in Europe. Europe is really exciting. I know it’s probably frustrating for the fans that they can’t get involved yet, but we want to progress as far as we can and the fans might be able to get an away day at some point after they’re allowed back in.

“Everybody dreams of doing well in Europe, so it’s a big opportunity for us to progress.”
