Biker dies in horror smash

A Carluke man died in a horror motorcycle accident near Moffat on Friday.

Alexander Carson, known as Lex, passed away following the incident on the A701 road at around 5.50pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene but could do nothing to save the 64-year-old.

His son Tam Carson paid tribute to his father who he described as his“best friend”.

He wrote:“Most devastatin­g news tonight that my dad has been killed in a motorcycle accident down in Moffat.

“I have no words for the feelings of losing my best friend. Ride easy pops.

“Til Valhalla (the hall of the fallen).”

Friends were quick to pay their respects to Lex.

One friend said:“Truly utterly devastated.

“I just can’t believe it. He will be greatly missed. “Thinking of all the family.” Another added:“One of the best gone. Still can’t believe I won’t see him again. RIP Lex.”

American Football team Musselburg­h Magnums also paid tribute to their“great friend”.

A post on their Facebook page read:“It is with great sadness that we have to let you know Lex Carson of the Clydesdale Colts was tragically killed in a motorbike accident near Moffat yesterday.

“Lex was a great friend of

the Magnums and together we formed a strong bond at league meetings to ensure the northern clubs were treated as well as our southern cousins.

“Ever there with an opinion but always with a smile. “Condolence­s to his wife Eleanor and son Tam.

“May he rest in peace.”

Sergeant Billy Broatch, of Dumfries and Galloway Road Policing Unit, said:“Our thoughts remain with Mr Carson’s family at this sad time.

“Our investigat­ion is ongoing to establish the full circumstan­ces of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or have any informatio­n that could assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Anyone with any informatio­n should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3023 of 18 September, 2020.”
