Photography society celebrates the best
Motherwell Photographic Society members had to find new ways to adapt with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The group moved their meetings over to Zoom, starting with their rescheduled awards ceremony.
The decision was made to host the event online as the Holytown Community Centre, where the group usually meets, is still closed.
The meeting was chaired by club President Linda Greenhill, who thanked everyone for their virtual attendance and informed the meeting that, until things returned to normal, all weekly meetings for the first half of the year would take place over Zoom.
She then proceeded to take the members attending through the list of annual award winners, who were each greeted in turn by a resounding round of virtual applause.
William Graham won Photographer of the Year, with Linda Greenhill and Dominic Smith coming second and third. Other winners across various categories include William Graham for projected digital images, Dominic Smith in advanced landscape and general images, and Douglas McEwan who came first in the beginners’ category.
The second part of the meeting was a general discussion where it was confirmed that all print competitions were to be delayed until the second part of the season in the hope that restrictions could be lifted and the group could all meet in person.
The competition secretary, Wilson Murray, detailed the sizing dimensions for the Projected Image competitions which were now the same as the GDPU criteria.
The three Digital Image competitions normally held each season, were to be undertaken in the first half of the season prior to Christmas.
Zaria Sleith, Syllabus Secretary, informed the meeting that she had secured the services of a number of guest speakers.
Some would not normally have been able book for personal appearances due to their geographic location, and that the talks over the coming months would be interesting, informative, educational and hopefully inspirational.
Motherwell Photographic Society normally meets on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre, Stevenston Street, Holytown, ML1 4RG, but until further notice, all meetings will be conducted virtually.
