Alexander lands first win at helm

-

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander praised the mentality of his players after they fought back to beat Ross County – and land his first win in charge.

The Steelmen trailed at the interval but produced a stirring comeback in the second half last midweek.

Alexander revealed that he demanded more from his players at the break while reiterating their terrible record from losing positions and he was delighted with the response, as they ended a run of 13 games without a win.

He said:“We had to remind the players of our record from being a goal down and everyone outside of Motherwell would have been expecting the same.

“We were fully committed in the second half. We passed the ball really well, we sprinted forward, we jumped that extra inch, we punched the passes in and we were a proper football team.

“I thought we made a choice in the second half to change our future and hopefully that will be the case going forward.”

Motherwell were unfortunate to trail at the interval after edging possession during the first half. Oli Shaw fired the Staggies ahead, but Devante Cole levelled for the‘Well on 52 minutes before Bevis Mugabi powerfully headed home the winner on 72 minutes.

It was Motherwell’s first three points since October 31 and it moved them above County in the table but Alexander urged his players to build on the win when they host Dundee United tonight.

He said:“We’ve got to make this win count for more than three points - which are so valuable. We need to learn from the second half and do it again and again.”
