Show special one how much you love them

- MICHAEL PRINGLE

There’s nothing like a beautiful bouquet of flowers to show your love and appreciation for someone.

The Wishaw Press knows full well the joy a bunch or bouquet can bring thanks to our Say it with Flowers weekly feature in collaboration with florist Pixies Petals, where we recognise everyday heroes in the community.

According to Robert Burns, “love is like a red red rose”, and with Valentine’s Day fast approaching there will be countless households in Wishaw and Shotts brightened up by the addition of a bunch of them.

Like other special dates during the past 11 months, February 14 this year may be a little different for most couples.

Restaurants that would normally be taking advance bookings for couples looking to share a romantic meal remain closed, and misty-eyed gazing across a candlelit table will be confined to home.

Non-cohabitating couples can’t even have eyes for each other across the kitchen table under the current coronavirus restrictions, they would need to endure an alfresco meal in the freezing cold.

So what better way to show your love and appreciation for your otherhalf than a floral arrangement and a card?

Despite being restricted to deliveries only, Yvonne Brodie and Catherine Allen at Pixies Petals in Newmains are gearing up for what is traditionally one of their busiest periods of the year despite the shop remaining closed to the public.

Yvonne said: “Guys especially are always a bit last minute, so we will be taking orders for deliveries right up to the day, as long as we still have a delivery space.

“Valentine’s Day is usually busy for us and we’re making the flowers up and delivering them.

“Some people are put off because they can’t collect as it’s only deliveries we’re doing, we’re not even allowed a click and collect service.”

If traditional red roses are not for you there are beautiful pinks, whites and yellows available too.

Gifting flowers isn’t the only way of telling someone you care and in recent years there’s been a rise in popularity of another form of symbolic expression.

Yvonne added: “We’re doing a range of balloons as well.

“I’ve put a load of pictures up on our Facebook page.

“We have something for everyone no matter their budget.”

You can order flowers or balloons, or both together as Pixies do a line in hybrid floral balloon creations, from their shop on Manse Road by calling 01698 387525 or via Pixies Petals Facebook page.
