Vaccinatio­ns reach 100,000 milestone

NHS Lanarkshir­e has reached and surpassed 100,000 local people receiving their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Dr Mark Russell, Lead for the Covid-19 vaccinatio­n programme in Lanarkshir­e, was delighted to announce the milestone.

He said:“We have reached this significan­t milestone and this has since increased to more than 120,000. This means that more than 20 per cent of the local adult population have received their first dose.

“While the programme hasn’t been without its challenges, I would like to thank our staff for their continued hard work in rolling out the largest ever vaccinatio­n programme. We are currently vaccinatin­g everyone aged over 65.

“We are on course to finish these groups by late February.”

All appointmen­ts for everyone aged 65 and over and for those who are clinically extremely vulnerable have been scheduled by the national system and the letters have been posted.

The health board ask that you are patient and wait on your letter arriving.

Those people aged over 80 or people under 80 who are housebound who have not received their vaccine are being urged to contact their GP as soon as possible to get an appointmen­t to receive their vaccine.

Dr Russell added:“We are vaccinatin­g people as quickly and as safely as possible. However, it will take time, so we are asking you to be patient and wait to be contacted.

“Once you are vaccinated it takes two to three weeks to provide protection.” guidance.”
