Greig Mitchell reckons Newmains’work off the pitch is helping them get better players on it.

United’s new assistant boss linked up with Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell earlier in the season.

Lockdown has meant they’ve not played since December 12.

Mitchell saw plenty of signs of progress amongst the squad – but has also been encouraged by the team working behind the scenes.

The club has worked hard to get the infrastructure right at Victoria Park with the clubhouse revamped.

They have a media academy giving budding journalists, graphic designers, videographers and photographers the chance to showcase their work.

Plus a Newmains United Season Ticket Takeaway has been introduced, which gives discounts on food, drinks, kitchens and haircuts.

Mitchell thinks it has all helped to raise the profile of the club – and encouraged more players to join.

He said:“When Paul Davies spoke to me about the opportunity I went online to see what the club was about.

“You can see the community aspect of the club, the developments we’re trying to do, the media academy and the interviews.

“I think it actually helps to attract players to the club as well. It’s not just about the team spirit, it gives you a much more professional feel.

“It’s a testament to everybody involved. I think everyone is really grateful for the hard work which is being done there and it’s a really good advert for the club.”
