Cole thriving at full match fitness
Motherwell’s Devante Cole admits it took him time to reach top form this season after missing seven months of football.
The 25 year-old was injured in the summer and missed pre-season after being released from Doncaster Rovers before he re-joined the Steelmen on October 2.
Cole scored on his first appearance of the season against Ross County before going nine matches without scoring – but he’s now back to his best.
He said:“Obviously, I missed the first few months of the season, so it took me a bit longer than I wanted to get me up to full fitness. But I’m feeling a lot better now.
“Fitness was the issue at the start for me and I was lacking sharpness because I hadn’t played football for seven months or so. I was well behind these boys because they had a pre-season and I didn’t so now I that I have caught up with them I felt a lot better.”
After a disappointing start the season, Motherwell have improved since Graham Alexander replaced Stephen
Robinson as manager.
Cole has scored five of his six league goals this season since the former Scotland international’s arrival and he emphasised the demands Alexander puts on his players.
He said:“A change of manager can happen in football, that’s just what happens. You always have to work hard and that’s what I have been doing.
“He’s a good manager. He’s come and changed a few things, but really it’s just about the hard work you put in and hopefully you can get the results.”
