A blooming great gift for caring friend

- JEAN WARD

A kind-hearted and selfless woman who goes above and beyond for her family and her community has been recognised by her close friend.

Isabella Docherty, 47, from Wishaw, was nominated for our Say It With Flowers award by her good friend Elizabeth Scott for her kindness and generosity.

The mum-of-six lives in Pather with her husband, Paul, whom she has been blissfully married to for over 25 years.

She attended Thornlie Primary School and Garrion Academy and after leaving school worked in a textile factory in the town, where she made bridal dresses.

After she started her family, she worked in Mcdonalds for many years, where she met Elizabeth and they have remained bosom buddies for more than two decades.

Elizabeth said: “Isabella and I have been friends for about 20 years. We met when our kids were younger because they are of similar ages.

“When I moved back to Pather we kept in touch. We message each other every day, but because of lockdown I can’t spend a lot of time with her at the moment.

“She is always at the end of the phone, and will help out whenever she can, and she knows how to make me smile. She is always there if I need her.”

As well as being devoted to her family and two grandchildren, before lockdown Isabella ran the Pather Play Pals toddler group in Pather Community Centre.

And despite suffering from her own challenges, the full-time mum is determined to reach out to anyone in need in her local community.

Elizabeth explained: “She has not worked for a while and looks after her kids. Her health is not the greatest, similar to mine, and the two of us understand each other.

“She suffers from depression, but despite this she runs raffles and helps people out whenever she can to try and cheer them up.

“She is very close to her family. Her older kids have moved out, but she is still very close to them.

“Her dad sadly passed away a couple of years ago and she helps out her mum whenever she can. She does loads for other people, even though she has gone through a lot herself. She finds little gifts for people who can’t afford to buy them or she will make them up.”

When Elizabeth told us about Isabella’s nomination, we were delighted to oblige by presenting her with these beautiful flowers, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals.

“I think she will be surprised and happy to receive these flowers,” said Elizabeth.

“I hope this will give her a wee muchneeded boost.”
