Panto double bill is an Easter treat Enjoy shows in the comfort of your own home

- MICHAEL PRINGLE

A Wishaw-based performing arts group will be bringing a special production to homes across the country this Easter.

Following the success of their previous pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, Go Kids Performing Arts (GKPA) are back with their virtual production of Mother Goose.

Available from April 1, the golden Easter panto includes appearances from sports stars such as Old Firm stars James Tavernier and Scott Brown, former footballer Frank McAvennie, boxer Tyson Fury and showbiz celebrities including Janey Godley, Des Clarke and a few other surprise guests.

The production will be packed full of pop hits, TikTok dances and funny lines.

As well as their theatre productions Go Kids provide training in performing arts to people of all ages.

Garry King of Go Kids, said: “It’s a massive Easter project for us that we’re looking forward to. And it’s for charity.

“We speak in the language of l ocal people. We’ve managed to get comedian Janey Godley and ex-football player Frank McAvennie involved and it’s all been shot in 4K HD.

“Some families can’t afford to go to the theatre so this is a lot more affordable and gives them the opportunity to enjoy something together they might not otherwise.

“We’ve made this production a bit more educational with stuff about self-image and social media but still with the comedy.”

The story is that Mother Goose, her son Sammy and his girlfriend Alice have fallen on hard times and are struggling to make ends meet. Despite their financial circumstances they remain upbeat and a happy bunch.

That ’s until they meet Daemon Vanity who attempts to lure Mother Goose with promises of beauty, fame and fortune.

And if that’s not enough, a “blue tick” on Instagram is thrown in as part of the tempting package.

All money raised from the virtual pantomime will be split between Lanarkshire charities including GKPA, Blameless and Hamilton Accies Community Trust.

If one panto isn’t enough or you didn’t manage to catch their previous production of Jack and the Beanstalk, they can both be ordered as part of a special package.

Directed by Michael Hines, who worked as a director and producer on Chewin the Fat and Still Game, Jack is faced with having to slay a giant and rescue the princess, after the big guy and his henchmen kidnap her and demand money for her return.

Mother Goose runs from Thursday 1 to Sunday, April 4 and Friday 9 to Sunday, April 11. Jack and the Beanstalk will run until Sunday, April 11. Tickets cost from £6 and advance bookings are required by email.

A voucher will be issued allowing the pantos to be viewed as many times as you like during each redemption period.

Last dates for booking vouchers is Friday 2 and Friday, April 9 for the Mother Goose production. And April 9 for the dual booking to watch both pantos. Both productions last an hour each.
