Fan Ewan kitted out and ready for action

A Wi s h aw fo o t b a l l fanatic has started a new blog to fill the void left by not being able to attend games.

Ewan MacDonald, 21, started The Kit Rail to show off a collection of classic shirts from around the world.

Ewan’s uncle, Alan, is the kit man for Motherwell FC and has lent Ewan some kits to help kickstart the website.

Ewan aims to display the kits while providing information on the history of each shirt and the player who wore it.

He told the Wishaw Press: “The lack of getting to any games during the pandemic has left me really bored, so this gives me something to do every week.

“I’m basically cataloguing the collection of kits my uncle has acquired over the years and showing them off to the world.

“The shirts come from all over, some donated by the player or team, and others are from shirt swaps when Motherwell played across Europe.

“I’ve never really thought of myself to be into writing or blogging, but I found that, because I’m so passionate about the subject, I really enjoy it.”

There are kits from leagues in England, Italy, and Germany ready to be showcased.

These include an England shirt from Terry Butcher, a Borussia Dortmund kit worn by Paul Lambert, and a Germany home strip worn by Andreas Moller.

Ewan said: “I take all the pictures myself in my back garden using a mannequin.

“I’ll then go and do research on the kit and the player who wore it and write up some information on what the player did the year he wore that specific shirt.

“It’s really interesting and I think it is quite a unique idea.

“There are so many shirts to showcase, so I’m looking forward to it.

“Some of the teams are no more or have fallen from their past glory, so I think football fans will be interested in that kind of thing.”

Already the project has received immense support, with former Mother well captain Stephen Craigan even taking notice of the blog.

He Tweeted: “This is going to be good – for all retro football fans, give this a follow and a watch.”

And current Well striker Tony Watt Tweeted: “Have a look troops, some exciting tops coming.”
