‘Well youngster Ross may stay with Thistle

- EUAN ROBERTSON

Ross MacIver admits he’d be open to staying at Partick Thistle next season but he’s waiting to sort out his future with Motherwell.

The 22 year-old is out of contract at the end of the season with the Steelmen and he is still unsure whether he will be offered a new deal.

He joined League One champions Thistle in March in a loan deal and he played eight times, scoring twice, as Ian McCall’s side gained promotion back to the Championship.

MacIver has loved him time there and he wouldn’t hesitate to return but he’s waiting to speak to his parent club first.

“I’ve not heard anything but I’ll probably find out in the next few weeks,” MacIver said.

“They are obviously concentrating on their last few games so it will be after the season is done that we will discuss what is happening.”

“Definitely [I could sign for Thistle permanently]. Especially when I know everybody here inside out but we’ll see what happens in the next few months.

“I’ve loved it honestly. I didn’t play as many games as I wanted to but I feel as though I’ve made an impact and did my part to help us lift the trophy.”

After drawing 2-2 with East Fife, Thistle embarked on a brilliant sevengame run, picking up 19 points from a possible 21, to clinch the title with an emphatic 5-0 win over Falkirk.

Thistle weren’t even in the play-off positions after MacIver signed and he conceded that winning the league seemed unrealistic.

MacIver added: “When I came in at the start, we were in sixth place or something like that.

“I remember looking at it and thinking that it’s probably going to be the play-offs but after the first week, I thought that we had a really good chance.

“Especially after coming off such a long time off, it just showed how much stronger and fitter we were than everybody else.

“We were inconsistent at the start but once we went on that winning run, I knew that we wouldn’t get caught.”

MacIver, who played the first part of the season on loan at Championship side Morton, has made just one a p p e a ra n c e f o r ‘ We l l t h i s t e r m, featuring as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Rangers on January 17.
