A star-studded Rangers Legends line-up will clash with Shotts Bon Accord’s 2012 Scottish Junior Cup winners at Hannah Park on Friday, with two major Lanarkshire charities benefiting from the proceeds.
Former Ibrox stars such as Colin Hendry, Charlie Miller, Marvin
Andrews, Gordon Durie, Alex Rae, GregoryVignal and Derek Ferguson will line up against ex-Shotts luminaries like current boss John McKeown, Andy Scott, and podcaster and event sponsor James English.
The‘rematch’clash on September 17 followsa GordonThomson Memorial match played in 2019.
Cash raised this year from the game and auction of a portrait of late Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen will go to assisting St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie and suicide prevention charity Chris’s House inWishaw.
Organiser StuartThomson, who was Gordon’s brother, hopes as many people as possible turn out for the game, and he revealed that spaces for 200 fans in hospitality sold out very quickly.
Stuart said:“We should have played this game last year, but then lockdown came along and changed the world for everybody!
“The two charities are St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie, where I got to know Fernando Ricksen, and Chris’s House in Wishaw, becausemybackgroundwas mental health in the health service.
“The portrait of Fernando is a cracker and I think the current bid is at £1200, but we’ll auction it off right up until kick-off.
“Hospitality for about 200 sold out in a couple of hours - we could have sold it out again - and there has been a steady sale of tickets, so we’re hoping for a good crowd.
“People have been in lockdown for ages, and this is a family event, so come along and see some legends, see some of the Shotts cup-winning team, and we’re playing for a trophy as well, sponsored by Bell’s of Shotts.
“It’s a great buy-in from the wider football community; this isn’t about Rangers and Celtic, or any of the baggage that goes with that, this is a night for charity, and hopefully we can raise a right few bob for them.”
The game on Friday kicks off at HannahParkat7pm.
Tickets costing £10 for adults and £5 for kids are available from the Shotts Bon Accord Social Club, St Andrew’s Hospice, Chris’House, or the John Murphy RSC/32 Club.
