Full marks for care home after inspection
A Wishaw care home has been given a thumbs up from inspectors after improving various activities for residents.
Beechwood Care Home, in the town’s Bridge Street, had a followup inspection despite scoring well in a number of categories set down by the Care Inspectorate.
A previous report called for a wider range of meaningful activity within the home.
Following the publishing of the original inspection in July, a Beechwood spokesperson said: “We always strive to make improvements for the benefit of our residents.
“As such, we are recruiting for a new activities coordinator to join our existing activities team, and have introduced a range of new activities to the home.
“Residents recently enjoyed a garden party with external entertainment, have been gardening and growing their own vegetables.
“We are ver y proud of our residents who won a 90-day football challenge with Fit-Baw, bringing the joy of football to older people.”
The newly updated report rated the home as “good” in all seven of the scoring categories.
The report states: “We completed a follow-up inspection on September 13 to monitor the progress in relation to improving the availability of meaningful activities and ensuring people’s legal rights were protected.
“Appropriate action had been taken to improve the range of activities available in the home.
“People had improved access to a range of activities that were meaningful to them.
“The provider had introduced effective systems to support and protect individual’s legal rights.
“We informed North Lanarkshire health and social care partnership of our findings.
“We reviewed the evaluations for this care home based on our findings at this inspection.”
The previous report also highlighted the positive feedback from families on Beechwood staff as well as having sufficient nursing and care staff to meet people’s needs.
