Losing run unacceptable, says Kelly

-

Liam Kelly admits Motherwell’s recent run of form isn’t good enough and they must get back to winning ways against St Mirren tonight.

The Steelmen have lost three on the bounce and they felt hard done by to leaveTannadice empty-handed on Saturday, following a 2-1 defeat.

It’s now sixth versus seventh in the Premiership as‘Well welcome the Buddies to Fir Park and Kelly hopes they can defend set-piece situations better.

He said:“I think when you are looking at the table and the teams in your fixtures, every game looks hard.

“There’s no room for excuses and we give everybody we play a tough game, but, ultimately, we need to start picking up points again because we’ve lost three games in a row – and that’s not good enough for our club and its supporters.

“We are still in a good position in the league and you saw from this week’s results that anything can happen.

“St Mirren is a good game to try and bounce back in, being at home, but they will be really tough. They’ve picked up some great results recently and we’ve got the utmost respect for them.

“We know it’s going to be difficult, but if we can defend our box a wee bit better it will stand us in good stead.”

A run of defeats can dent players’ confidence, but Kelly isn’t panicking after a barren October so far. Following St Mirren, champions Rangers visit Fir Park on Sunday so they will be desperate to halt their current slide.

Kelly added:“We weren’t too high whenwewereonagoodrunandwe aren’t too low now. We’ll dust ourselves down and be ready to go again.”
