Hospital bowled over by donation

-

Kind-heartedmembersofaWishaw bowling club have handed over a bumper cheque to the town’s hospital.

Like many other organisations, Houldsworth Bowling Club had been closed during the pandemic but decided to raise funds forWishaw General’s ward 17 to thank them for all their hard work and for looking after members of the club who have needed care.

Club president John Hart and women’s captain Ann Stevenson were on hand to present the cheque to staff which included John’s own sister Angela Hardy.

Speaking to theWishaw Press this week, John said:“With my sister working in the hospital you realise just how hard everyone there works.

“In the past we have supported charities like the Erskine veterans charity and Guide Dogs but we always try and support local charities.

“Given the work the doctors and nurses have done in the past 18 months, plus a number of our members have had great care in the hospital, it seemed the obvious choice.

“We organised a bowling tournament and in the end we raised over £500.

“Previously we have been told of various items the hospital needs and we have donated televisions, hair straighteners and a host of other things.”

Angela added:“The staff were really pleased to accept the donation.

“It’s nice to get the recognition and every little bit helps.”

The club is now getting back on its feet now that Covid restrictions have been lifted with members returning.

Events coming up include a Christmas party night on December 11 with tickets, priced £10, available from the club and a Hogmanay night.

John added:“We are starting to see a steady stream of members returning although we understand some people are rightly being cautious as we have a lot of elderly members.

“It’s just nice to be out and about and seeing everyone again.”
