Vision gain vital experience in events at home and abroad

- BEN BANKS

Vision Taekwondo will finally catch their breath after a busy month of action saw them head abroad twice and host their own competition.

The Wishaw-based club have faced disruption due to Covid 19 but with restrictions now eased, they have been able to kick on with their plans.

Last month, along with Glasgowbased club Momentum, they held the Vision-Momentum Open at Wishaw Sports Centre.

Hundreds of fighters descended upon Lanarkshire for the event and they scooped eight golds, seven silvers and five bronze medals on home soil.

It was the first British Taekwondo competition in Scotland for over two years.

On the continent, Ava Bett, Lee Horswell and Jordan Horswell competed at the Belgian Open while Siobhan Coe joined them for the Spanish Open.

While no medals were won, it was still a worthwhile experience for the youngsters, who tested themselves against some of the best in Europe.

Coach Craig Eden was delighted with how the hectic month went.

He said: “We might not have won any medals abroad but it was really close.

“The standard is so high at these events and they all fought really well.

It was really good experience for them but we’re going to have a bit of a break now international-wise.

“We’ll have a go at it again in the second half of this year.

“The Vision- Momentum Open was brilliant. We had around 200 competitors from 21 clubs.

“There was one club from Ireland, five from up here and the rest came from England.

“What we won was really good. We had 10 first-timers involved as well which was good for them to pick up some competition experience.

“The majority of them loved it and some perhaps got a shock with how hard it ended up being. But it was a really good event for us.”
