Violent attacks are admitted

A brute who terrorised several women with violent attacks in various locations across Lanarkshir­e has been given a month’s stay of execution by a sheriff.

Martin Reilly, 29, appeared at Lanark Sheriff Court for sentencing having admitted a string of charges against him.

He admitted assaulting a woman on various occasions between September 2018 and March 2019 in Wishaw and Carluke. During the terrifying incidents, Reilly repeatedly seized the victim by the hair, repeatedly punched and kicked her on the head and body and repeatedly seized her by the throat restrictin­g her breathing.

He also pulled her along a flight of stairs, bit her on the ear, repeatedly struck her on the body with a brush, stood on her head and brandished a knife.

The court heard that on one occasion Reilly kicked his victim on the head and seized her by the throat whereby she lost consciousn­ess.

Reilly also admitted repeatedly shouting, swearing, issuing insults, damaging a TV and breaking a phone belonging to the woman.

Between February and June 2019, Reilly also pleaded guilty to conspiring with another to damage property belonging to the same victim and perverting the course of justice.

Reilly threw paint over a door, gained access to and shared private info from the email account of the victim and created false messages and images.

Reilly also admitted offences against women from years earlier.

Between 2009 and 2011 at homes in Lanark and Carstairs as well as at M&D’s at Strathclyd­e Park and Hamilton Train Station, Reilly assaulted a second woman.

During these incidents Reilly repeatedly seized her by the head, pulled an earring from her ear, repeatedly struck her on the head, seized her by the throat, knocked her to the ground, struck her head against the ground and pushed her on the body.

Reilly also conducted himself aggressive­ly, repeatedly shouted, issued insults and damaged a phone belonging to the woman.

The accused also pleaded guilty to charges relating to incidents between 2011 and 2014 involving another woman.

During these incidents, which took place at homes in Carstairs and Forth, Reilly assaulted the woman by repeatedly seizing her by the head, repeatedly punching and kicking her on the head and body, seizing her by the throat, pushing her on the body and striking her head against a wall.

He also threw various things , damaged items of kids clothing and toys as well as damaging a phone belonging to the victim.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam further defered sentence on Reilly, of Moss Road, Carstairs, until June 8 at Airdrie Sheriff Court to await a report from the Caledonian System, a programme for men convicted of domestic abuse.
