Thanks for ‘fantastic’ service over the years

- ROSS THOMSON

A sterling stalwart of a Wishaw club has been thanked for his many years of service.

A presentation night was recently held in Cambusnethan Miners Social Club to thank Jim Ballantyne for his services as a committee member and as president for 15 years.

Long-standing committee members Ian Adams and Ian Borthwick presented Jim with a small gift to show their appreciation for all of his work over the years.

The club’s new president Alex Paris paid tribute to Jim.

He told the Wishaw Press: “Jim’s been part of the committee for over 20 years so he has been absolutely brilliant.

“I’m the new president so I’ve got big shoes to fill.

“I know Jim had been thinking about stepping down pre- Covid so having gone through all of that he decided to step down.

“He wants to spend more time with his family and you can certainly understand that.”

Jim played a huge part in helping the Camby Club through the pandemic.

And now with things returning to normality, Jim felt the time was right to step back to spend more time with his family.

Alex added: “Jim and other committee members were very hands-on during Covid and spent a lot of time making sure the club continued.

“They made sure we had the right support when we were closed and made sure we were ready to re-open when restrictions were lifted.

“Now we are starting to get back to where we were before the pandemic started so we have to thank Jim and others for that.”
