Action in Craigneuk

A day of action in one area ofWishaw resulted in two arrests and warnings given for the mistreatme­nt of dogs.

Police targeted several streets in Craigneuk during crackdown in the area which highlighte­d that certain residents were not adhering to the terms of their tenancy agreements.

Area Inspector Alan Mulholland told the Wishaw Press that his officers “continue to act on informatio­n” regarding criminal activity in the Craigneuk area.

He told us: “I want to send a message of reassuranc­e to the community regarding our efforts and a warning to those who continue to act in a criminal or anti-social manner.

“Community and CID officers from Wishaw have been in and around the area of Craigneuk and continue target those involved in criminalit­y.

“We have been engaged with our partners at NLC housing, antisocial behaviour teams, estates and environmen­tal health to combat the people who are continuing to act in an antisocial manner and abuse or exploit the community to drug misuse.”

The day of action resulted in a number of interventi­ons regarding householde­rs warned, intelligen­ce noted and also highlighte­d issues surroundin­g the mistreatme­nt of dogs.

Police are now working closely with the Scottish SPCA and are fully on board to support them in disrupting anyone found mistreatin­g animals.

There was also two people arrested on warrant and many people were spoken to which allows officers to develop community intelligen­ce around particular areas of concern.

Inspector Mulholland added: “Officers will continue to patrol the area in uniform and plain clothes patrols and I would encourage the local people to speak to the community policing team and inform them of any concerns they may have.

“If anyone has informatio­n that will support the police and our partners in disrupting the people causing concern, I would ask that they call 101 and discuss in confidence with an officer.”
