Dear Editor,

Diabetes is a hidden condition, but the people living with diabetes should never be put to the back of the queue because of that.

One in 14 of us live with diabetes and even more care for a loved one who does.

That’s why, this Diabetes Week, which runs from June 13 to 19, we’re calling on decision makers across the UK to do more to support people living with and affected by diabetes.

Let’s stand together and tell them to listen.

In Scotland we welcome government funding for diabetes tech, and we’re asking that health boards roll this out as quickly as possible.

Mary’sMealshelp

Dear Editor,

As Father’s Day approaches, I’m thinking about the joy my children bring to my life.

Their energy, enthusiasm, and the happiness they take from even the smallest of things all give me hope for the future.

And hope is important.

We are living through challenging times in a world devastated by war and food insecurity – as well as the cost of living crisis affecting many people here in the UK. I support Mary’s Meals because this wonderful charity is a beacon of hope around the world.

With the promise of a daily meal in a place of education, hungry children are attracted into the classroom where they have the energy to learn their way to a brighter future.

It costs Mary’s Meals just eight pence to serve a life-changing meal to a hungry child, meaning every donation to the charity – no matter how small – can make an enormous difference.

Please join me in supporting the Hope Conquers Fear campaign, so that Mary’s Meals can keep its promise to the 2,279,941 children who rely on a daily meal. For more information, please visit marysmeals.org.uk

Network Rail Scotland and British Transport Police are warning of the dangers of misusing the railway following a series of incidents at Logans Road level crossing in Motherwell. Since the start of 2022, there have been six serious incidents reported near Logans Road including trespassing, one where a man climbed on the level crossing barrier, and another where a man forced the barrier open before crossing.

They are needing to do away with them and source a safer method.

I’ll never forget the night at Stevenston Level Crossing a drunk man emerged from the pub and jumped the barriers to catch his train.

Luckily he caught the train the correct way as 20 seconds later he wouldn’t have missed it that’s for sure. Andrew Stevenson

It’s not the level crossing that’s dangerous, it’s the people who think they can use them as public paths to get them were they want to go or idiots who think they can use them as play grounds.

If people use them correctly they can be safe.
