Salon boss celebrates scooping national title
A Wishaw hair and beauty salon has been named the best in Lanarkshire at the Scottish Business Awards.
All About U, on the town’s Main Street, received the award at last week’s glittering ceremony in Glasgow.
Owned by Jennifer Haddow, the salon only opened last September and is already proving popular with clients.
Jennifer told the Wishaw Press: “I was so shocked to win the award, I honestly did not expect it.
“I was nominated by one of my clients and as the awards got closer, more and more people were telling me they had voted for me.
“Before I went to the awards ceremony people were telling me to prepare a speech and I told them not to be daft because I had no chance.
“I could not believe I had won.
“There is actually a video on the salon’s Facebook page of when I found out and you can see how shocked I am.”
It wasn’t an easy journey for Jennifer to open her salon.
She had a battle with breast cancer but has now been in remission for four years.
This, and an ambition to start other beauty treatments, led Jennifer to go and get extra training and find a space for a studio of her own.
She said: “After having breast cancer I said to myself that life is too short and decided I wanted to open my own salon.
“I had also wanted to start other treatments such as tattoo brows and microblading, so I needed my own space to do this.
“I went to Bradford to do extra training and then went to find the perfect space for the salon.
“We are now in the perfect unit on Wishaw Main Street and everything has been going great.
“My mum works with me too and organises all the appointments and works in the reception, I couldn’t do it without her.”

Following nominations from the community,The NCT Centre in Newmains won the Community Award for Lanarkshire at the Scottish Business Awards.
Centre manager Jane Wood said:“NCT won‘The Community Award’to recognise the fantastic community spirit we have fostered in Newmains and the first-class service we provide to the local community of Newmains and beyond.“We would like to thank everyone who uses the NCT Centre and Centre Perk Cafe for their amazing support.”
The winners will now proceed to the Scotlandwide Grand Final.
