It’s not just any makeover, it’s an M&S one

STAFF from a food hall in Lower Earley threw their support behind a local hospice by helping to redecorate its reception last week.

As part of national Volunteers’ Week, team members from Marks and Spencers, in Chalfont Way, spent the day helping to repaint the reception area at the Sue Ryder Wokingham Day Hospice, in Barkham Road, Wokingham.

One of the team lost their father recently, who was cared for by the Sue Ryder team at Wokingham.

Janet Carpenter, Section Manager for the Lower Earley Foodhall, said: “Roy Fisher visited the day hospice every Friday to talk to the lovely nurses and it was an ideal time to talk through any worries or concerns to do with his illness and they gave help and support to him and his family.

“When he visited they would arrange to play cards, hold discussions, share personal experiences and have a good time.

“Being at the hospice allowed the family to continue with dayto-day life because they knew he was in safe caring hands while he was there. Everyone knew that the Sue Ryder team were always just a phone call away.

“The day of painting was a great success and we’re just so glad we could help out such a brilliant local charity. They provide incredible care and we want to do our bit to help ensure they can continue to do so.”

Marks and Spencer has so far raised £2,500 for the charity through various in store fundraising events.

Fern Haynes, Community Fundraising Manager Sue Ryder, said: “Our supporters are incredibly important to us, and the team at Marks and Spencer have just been fantastic with their energetic fundraising.

“Without help like this, we simply wouldn’t be able to help the people who need us, or carry on providing and developing the services that so many depend on.

“It was great to have the M&S team here with us at the Wokingham Hospice and the reception area looks brand new, we are truly grateful!”
