Dads ready for wacky races

-

A TEAM of dads hell-bent on raising money for their children’s school are all set for a Wacky Rally, writes Sally Bryant.

They will leave Wokingham in an unmissable banger next week with little on their minds but success.

It isn’t going to be easy – their first challenge is to get the £170 Saab to Lille in France for the start of the rally on Friday, June 23.

Their mission then will be to keep rolling over 1,700km through six countries – completing challenges along the way – to finish in Rimini in Italy on Monday, June 26.

The drivers, not mechanics but willing to fly by the seats of their pants, are Rob Skitt, 40, a project manager from Benning Way; Andy Butler, 43 and from Whaley Road, and 43-year-old Rob Briggs, a Sky worker from Headington Close.

They all have children at All Saints CE (Aided) Primary in Norreys Avenue and their aim is to buy new soft matting under play equipment at the school.

Their target is £2,000: £1,586 is already in the pot and the team is at the school today in a last drive to publicise their effort.

Pupils will be signing their names on the multi-coloured car.

The road to Rimini hasn’t been exactly smooth since the daring dads dreamed up their wacky scheme.

The Sabb is their second – the first ‘died’ weeks before they even got as far as thinking about heading for the ferry.

But they are determined to make a fearless attack on the course, along with the 60 other teams tackling the Rockin’ to Rimini rally.
