Thank you for voting for me

I would like to thank everyone who voted for the Liberal Democrats and myself in last week’s General Election.

Although we didn’t achieve the result that we wanted, I think we campaigned very effectively giving Wokingham’s voters a choice other than the two main parties who were supported by much of the national newspaper and TV media.

We will continue to campaign on the issues which are important to Wokingham, Brexit, education, the NHS and social care and pensions.

Mrs May warned against what she called a coalition of chaos. She didn’t expect to be leading one.

We have 250 Conservative MPs recognised as mainstream one nation Conservatives. There are a further 50 or so who are very right wing and are obsessed by leaving the European community no matter how much that damages our economy.

Added to that are 12 Scottish Conservatives who don’t want to leave the EU.

Finally we have 10 very right wing Ulster Nationalists (DUP) who oppose much of the social legislation passed by the governments in the UK over the past 15 years.

I really fear for the continuation of the Northern Ireland peace process.

We have a huge mess because two Conservative Prime Ministers put their party interests before the country’s interests.
