VOLUNTEER CORNER

WADE is a registered charity which provides pleasant surroundings near the centre of Wokingham for the use of over-60s and residents of the Wokingham Borough area.

They are currently in need of Minibus passenger assistance volunteers to help escort the elderly clients on to the minibus when they are picked up, stay with them throughout the journey and help them off the minibus when they reach the WADE day care centre.

Volunteers are needed on weekdays from 9am-11am and then from 3.15pm5pm. Volunteers must be patient, caring and physically fit and able.

ASSIST supports young people in Wokingham Borough from 12 years-18 years who are on the autistic spectrum. They have two groups that meet once a month on a Saturday and once a month on a Sunday.

The boys group meets once a month on a Saturday from 11.15am-2.15pm in Woodley. A volunteer is required to spend time chatting to the young people, playing games, pool, football etc.

The girls group meets once a month in Wokingham on a Sunday from 11am3pm and a volunteer is needed to spend time chatting to the girls and playing games etc.

Home Start is a national voluntary organisation offering informal, friendly support to parents with at least one child under the age of five.

Home Start knows how hard being a parent can be, particularly during the early years, and that any additional pressures can make things seem overwhelming.

Home Start Volunteers come from all walks of life, and are usually parents themselves. They are carefully selected for their friendliness, practical approach and understanding.

Volunteers attend a course of preparation and are then matched with a family. They then visit families in their own homes to offer support, friendship and practical help.
