Borough’s famous five are Muddy Stiletto winners

WOKINGHAM’S businesses are celebratin­g after five came out on top in the Berkshire Muddy Stiletto Awards.

A total of 26 independen­t businesses were nominated across the 27 categories, which included Best Art Gallery, Best Children’s Business and Best Local Food and Drink Producer.

Best Beauty Salon went to Barkham Beauty Rooms, in Barkham Road, who took 32.4% of the total vote.

Organiser Rachel Jane wrote on the blog: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who entered and voted in this year’s highly contested Muddy Stilettos Awards.

“The response to the Awards this year has been incredible, with up to 100,000 people per day voting across the Muddy Stilettos sites.

“The ethos of Muddy Stilettos is all about celebratin­g and supporting the most unique, interestin­g, brilliant lifestyle businesses and we hope that we’ve helped to shine a light on the amazing talent in our region.

“Our congratula­tions to all the Winners as well as the worthy Finalists.”

The Handmade Craft Company at Holme Grange Village, in Heathlands Road, scooped the top spot in the Best Gift Shop category, with 41.3% of the votes.

Owner Emma Hurrell said: “I can’t believe I’ve been awarded such a great accolade less than one year since opening!

“It means so much to me, the lovely ladies that work for me and to all the talented crafters that hire shelves from me to sell their amazing, different and quirky creations.

“A huge thank you goes out to all of our customers, friends and families that supported us by voting and spreading the word.”

The title of Best Day Spa went to Nirvana Spa in Mole Road, Sindlesham (70.4%).

The Best Hair Salon award went to Salon 55, in High Street, Crowthorne. The hair specialist­s scooped 38.4% of the votes, which were all cast online over a week earlier this month.

Finally, Rococo Jewellery, in Bush Walk, Wokingham, were named Best Jewellery Store with 36.8% of the votes.

Owner Juliette Bluhm said: “We are so grateful and humbled to have won. We have been in the town for 30 years and we have lots of very loyal customers.

“We stock global brands as well as up-and-coming artists, so there really is something for all tastes in our shop.

“We would just like to say thank you to everyone who voted for us, we will be planning something special for our customers to say thank you in the coming weeks.”
