Art show will help refugees

-

AN ART exhibition raising money for a local refugee support group will take place in Finchampstead this weekend.

Featuring painting and sculptures around the theme of the global refugee crisis, the exhibition will explore a first-hand account of what it is like to leave your home and your possessions.

Works by Faraj Ali Al-Ajeeli, a local artist who was forced to flee his home in Libya, will provide the focus of the exhibition, and a number of his artworks will be auctioned off after the exhibition.

Four of the pieces have already been sold, leaving two up for grabs.

All proceeds will be donated to Reading Refugee Support Group (RRSG).

A spokesperson for the show, James

Harmer said: “The work is very powerful as it comes from a place of true experience and emotion.

“The entire event’s aim is to help raise awareness and start a dialogue between people locally about what’s going on globally and what we can do to support people locally.

“We want to give people the chance to talk to the artists and those involved at RRSG, who will be in attendance.”

The exhibition takes place at the FBC Centre, Gorse Ride North, on Saturday between 5pm and 8pm. Entry is free.
