MOTORISTS are being warned of disruption this summer as a major route between Twyford and Wokingham is to face road closures for repairs.

Highways England is to resurface the bridge that goes over the M4 near junction 10 on the A321.

The organisation said that the work is essential and will improve the safety and functionality of the bridge.

Once complete, it adds that the work will reduce the need for potential closures in the future.

Work is due to start on Wednesday, July 26 and take up to six weeks.

There are two elements to the work. During the working day, temporary traffic lights will be in place throughout the scheme.

But overnight Monday to Friday, the A321 bridge will be completely closed to traffic.

A diversion will be in place via Forest Road, The Straight Mile, the Hurst Road and Wokingham Road, taking motorists past Billing Park Golf Course, into Whistley Green and Hurst.

Highways England promise that the diversions will be clearly signposted.

Highways England Service Delivery Manager Andrew Winson said: “We will be maintaining the bridge that carries the A321 over the M4 near junction 10 this summer. The work will provide drivers with safe and reliable journeys for years to come.

“We have carefully considered the scheme, working closely with Wokingham Borough Council, to minimise the overall disruption by carrying out the majority of the work overnight, when traffic flows are lowest.

“I advise anyone wishing to use the A321 to plan their journeys and allow additional time.”
