Students toast success in Windsor Piano Festival
PUPILS from two schools in the borough have been hitting the right notes at a prestigious piano festival.
Aurelia and Gabriel Brown, both students at Holme Grange School, in Heathlands Road, Wokingham, joined James Abrahart, from Meadowbrook School in Warfield, at the prestigious Windsor Piano Festival earlier this month.
Aurelia won a gold medal and the Stephenson Cup for being the best performer in the Grade 1 to Grade 3 classes, having received a score of 90 from each of the three judges.
Brother Gabriel also received the top marks in the Grade 5 class, receiving a distinction, a silver medal and two bronze medals.
James was awarded first place with a very high ‘outstanding’ score within the Grade 8 class, and a further first place and cup for best performance across all classes in the competition.
ON Sunday 4th June, I took part in the Windsor Piano Festival 2017. I played ‘Gigue’ composed by JS Bach. The performances were really good including some from people I had seen in previous years.
I was awarded first place with a very high ‘outstanding’ score within the Grade 8 category.
On Sunday evening my piano teacher called me and said that I had been awarded a further first place and another cup for ‘best performance’ across all classes within the competition. I was very happy.
I started learning piano from when I was in Year 1 at Meadowbrook School and for the last three years I have hosted a music festival at Meadowbrook, inspiring my friends and other pupils to take up learning an instrument.
I am about to take my grade 8 exam and I am practicing hard for that.
After grade 8, I want to play more different genres of music especially jazz, to learn a new instrument and take part in more public performances.
