Wokingham sink Royal Household

WOKINGHAM A climbed up to third in Division 1 of the Kennet League with a convincing win over Royal Household.

The hosts were in fine form from start to finish, winning on all four rinks and taking the match by 84 shots to 61.

There were good wins for rinks skipped by Alan Symondson and Tom Searle, winning by eight shots and seven shots respective­ly, while John Scowen and Neil Jones’ rinks were also successful.

WOKINGHAM B also sit third, in Division 2, after coming away from Sunningdal­e with an

87 shots to 69 victory.

Highest up rink for Wokingham was skipped by Colin Cleverly along with Roger Dollery, John MacGregor and Barry Woolley who won by 13 shots. There were also rink wins for Aylott and Hales-Owen.

In Division 3,

WOKINGHAM C took on Great Hollands and lost by 61 shots to 113.

There was a narrow victory for the rink skipped by Paul Graham, who won by one shot, but the remaining Wokingham rinks all lost

Kennet LV (Over 55s) League

WOKINGHAM A hosted Maiden Erlegh A in a

Division 1 clash.

Wokingham were in fine form and won the match by 70 shots to 33, winning on all three rinks, skipped by Colin Cleverly, Bob Hales-Owen and Paul Aylott.

THREE MILE CROSS B hosted WOKINGHAM B in Division 2 and the visitors won on all three triples to record an excellent victory by 58 shots to 41.

Wokingham skips were Ted Melber, Jim Rudd and Gerry Deeves.

WOKINGHAM C succumbed to a 63-43 loss against a strong Reading A side. Wokingham had one winning triple and that was skipped by John Buttigieg along with Robin Harding and Brian Chinneck who won by 4 shots.

Thames Valley Ladies League

A rink win skipped by Lillian Holliday could not prevent a tight defeat for WOKINGHAM ACORNS againts Sutton Seeds in Division 1.

Sutton took a 46 shots to 41 victory against the leaders.

Friendly Matches

In a Ladies Friendly match at Henley on Thames, WOKINGHAM played the local team and won narrowly, by 28 shots to 25. The game was cut short due to the sweltering heat and consisted of two triples and one pair.

The pair who made the difference for Wokingham was skipped by Jennie MacGregor along with AnneMarie Murray who won their game by 8 shots.

Wokingham Ladies were at home to near neighbours HURST and won on all three triples. Only ten ends were played due to the extremely hot conditions. Wokingham won by 25 shots to Hurst 17. Top triple for Wokingham was skipped by Cyndy PriceFinni­e along with Barbara Woolley and Zara Sanders who won by 5 shots.

THREE MILE CROSS again enjoyed mixed fortunes with victory for the men’s A team over Desborough while the Ladies beat Woodley.

The A team lost in the LV league against Suttons while a friendly with Wargrave was cancelled due to the heat.
