Juniors seal second straight victory

SONNING GOLF CLUB’S junior side sealed a second straight victory with a hard fought 3-2 success at Castle Royle.

Given a 1-0 headstart due to the opposition failing to field a full team, Sonning still had a tricky task in the windy conditions.

First out was captain Jack Green, off 11, against Castle Royle’s captain who was playing off five.

Despite leading heading into the closing stages, the hosts got a point back with a late fightback.

Chris Harding earned half a point for Sonning in a tight game before Megan Hewinson sealed a big win. Isaac Thompson confirmed the win, halving his contest to earn the 3-2 success.

The senior 4th team played out a 2-2 draw against Reading 19+.

An early Richard Jones birdie put Sonning ahead, but they were eventually pegged back before Jones and partner David Hancorn won their game 3 and 1.

Reading won the second and third games but Steve Kent and Peter Chidgey earned a draw in the fourth.

In the weekday individual contests at the club, Michelle James won the Francis Cup, Shawn Donovan lifted the Midweek Stableford and Ros Gurney clinched the Friday Stableford.

Hewinson won the Junior Stableford, Wayne Adamson lifted the Sunday Stableford while the quartet of Pauline Valsler, Dave Valsler, Adamson and Keith Medhurst were victorious in the Mixed Team Stableford.
