Sensational Gillespie hits dizzy heights for Wokingham

-

CAMERON GILLESPIE produced a sensational individual display to help Wokingham 3s to victory over Maidenhead and Bray 2s in 5b.

Batting first, Gillespie – nicknamed Dizzy – led the charge by posting 115 runs out of his side’s total of 197 all out.

Despite his fine work with the bat, Gillespie knew he also had to deliver with the ball and he did exactly that with superb figures of 7-43 while Martin Wilson contributed 3-50 as Maidenhead were bowled out for 103, handing the Oaks a 94-run win.

Mandip Sohi produced a wonderful innings to guide WARGRAVE 2s to a huge win over Slough 4s.

Opener Sohi scored 156, contributing to an opening wicket stand of 226-1 before Kam Hanif fell for 84.

From there, Wargrave never looked back, eventually declaring on 327-4 after Sam Bowers had also added 40 to the total.

All eyes turned to the bowlers and they dismissed Slough for 158 with Scott Morton (3-26) the pick of the bowlers.

Stephen Jeffrey hit his second century in as many weeks as WARGRAVE 3s preserved top spot in 9a.

Jeffrey, who scored 111 last week, followed it up with an unbeaten 101 this time around as Wargrave cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Newbury 3s.

The hosts were in control after reducing Newbury to 155-8 as Scott Walker (3-33) led the bowling and Jeffrey did most of the damage on his own in reply.

Ben Martin outshone Jeffrey’s 111 with a knock of 124 for EVERSLEY 4s.

After Yateley 4s had declared on 210-9, Eversley made light work of the chase, winning by five wickets as Martin stole the show.

WOKINGHAM 5s are up to second in the league after they were awarded a victory when Thatcham Town 4s conceded.

SONNING 2s are still leading the way up in 6b after a nine-wicket win over Aldershot 3s.

Sonning bowled first, dismissing the Hampshire side for 190 with Adeel Chaudry (3-38) the pick of the bowlers.

Mark Richards got the ball rolling in reply with 27 before Hasnein Akram (69no) and Rehan Akram (87no) completed the job.

FINCHAMPSTEAD 4s remain their closest challengers after edging past HURST 2s by two wickets.

Hurst batted first with Tom Hibbs (47) and Jack Wrigley (37) top scoring. But good bowling from Michael Simmonite (3-23) saw them bowled out for 186.

And Finches stuttered along in their reply with Ian Harvey (4-25) in fine form with the ball.

Richard Reed (45), Jamie Brown (27) and Kartik Khanti (32) produced the pick of the scores as the hosts ground out the win.

WOKINGHAM 4s remain in the 7a relegation zone, despite a thumping 117-run win over Newbury 2s.

John Barker top scored with a half century 56 while solid knocks from Richard Runham (39no) and Jamie Cable (29) helped Wokingham set a target of 210 to win.

And that never looked like being reached as Hugh Doyle’s figures of

6-20 caused havoc with Newbury skittled for just 95.

It was a tough day all round for EVERSLEY 3s as they lost by eight wickets against Fleet 2s.

Vijay Nawale (35) and Bill Burnett (26) top scored for the Boars as they were bowled out for 110, a target comfortably reached by Fleet.

Dave Marles hit 53 not out as FINCHAMPSTEAD 5s held on to draw with Bagshot 3s.

A target of 321 was always likely to be daunting for Finch, but fine efforts from Marles, Syed Mohammed (50) and Adil Mohammed (49) saw them frustrate Bagshot to take a share of the points.

SONNING 3s also drew after digging in against Royal Ascot 4s.

Set a total of 236 to chase, it quickly became apparent that would not be reached, but

Sonning patiently worked their way to 137-6 at the close with Wazir Khan (51) and Paul Shumake (46) top scoring.
